Job description
GEV Wind Power is seeking a Safety Manager to lead and oversee Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs across its wind energy projects, including construction, commissioning, and operational activities. The Safety Manager ensures compliance with OSHA, client, and company safety standards through proactive risk management, site audits, incident investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role partners closely with field operations, project management, and executive leadership to foster a strong safety culture and support the safe, efficient delivery of wind energy projects.
Job Responsibilities
Create and implement GEV’s safety policies in line with OSHA, ANSI, & US legal requirements.
Create RAMS (Risk Assessment Method Statements) as needed
Provide guidance to Managers & Technicians on safety & health protocols & procedures
Conduct site safety audits, inspections, & risk assessments.
Lead investigations into incidents, near misses, & safety concerns. Identify causes and recommend corrective actions.
Maintain accurate safety records, including incident reports & audit findings.
Represent GEV in regulatory inspections & external safety audits.
Promote proactive safety reporting & GEV’s Fail Safely principles.
Deliver safety briefings, toolbox talks, & safety campaigns to reinforce safe behaviours.
Act as a point of contact for safety advice & employee safety concerns.
Monitor & report on safety performance, including incidents, observations, & corrective actions.
Track & report on safety KPIs such as incident rates, audit findings, & safety action closure rates.
Identify trends & areas for improvement in safety performance.
Partner with Operational Leadership, HR and Risk Management to manage safety risks.
Support Operations in assessing safety risks for new & ongoing projects.
Advise on emergency response planning & readiness.
Oversee availability, inspection, & suitability of safety equipment & PPE.
Job requirements
To be considered, you must meet the minimum requirements
Prefer a Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Occupational Health or related field
CSP Certification preferred
5+ years experience in safety management in the wind, industrial or construction sector
Proven track record with incident investigation and risk management.
Experience leading audits and safety inspections.
Must be able to travel to job sites throughout North America 20% of the time, by vehicle and/or air (prefer residence within an easy drive of a
major airport)
Must have strong two-way communication skills, excellent customer service skills, be a strong team player, have attention to detail, and possess the ability to work independently
Prefer OSHA 501 certification
Strong reporting and analysis skills
Must be dedicated, responsive and have a professional demeanor
Valid drivers license, good MVR record and satisfactory background and drug screening; (must be eligible to drive a rental vehicle)
Possess or eligible to obtain a U.S. passport
Proficient with safety management systems
Must be computer proficient with internet, email and Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Bilingual English/Spanish a plus, but not required
Experience with implementing EHS management system including ISO 14001, OSHA 18001 (ISO 45001)
